Chris Nelson came to the Chattahoochee Nature Center from the Piedmont Park Conservancy, where he served as Chief Operating Officer/Vice President from 1999-2014, helping to make it Atlanta’s greatest melting pot of people and culture.
With degrees in Anthropology and Agriculture from the University of Georgia, Chris started his own landscaping business in 1977 and ran it for over 30 years. He grew up in Venezuela and Colombia, which gave him the opportunity to explore the outdoors and appreciate the culture and biodiversity that exists around the world.
Founded by local citizen activists in the mid-1970s, the Chattahoochee Nature Center has been nurtured by hundreds of people who have worked to build a strong grassroots environmental learning center, touching the lives of more than 130,000 children and adults each year.
In metro Atlanta, no other place offers our community the opportunity to connect to such a broad circle of activities and experiences in the natural world: the land, water, wildlife, plants, educators, knowledge and passion, which we share freely with all visitors. The Chattahoochee Nature Center is a unique place where people connect to each other and the land through a shared respect for nature. It’s through that interaction with nature that we excite our senses and encourage learning. Visit us today and experience the wonders of Chattahoochee Nature Center.
