Vinings DownHill 5K Run for the Kids

  • Vinings Club signature event & fundraiser.
  • 65 members (plus 40 family members) participated in some way during the year. Total volunteer hours approximately 750.
  • Race expenses $40,000; $85K grant funds expended; Registration fees $41,200; Sponsorships $83,500.
  • 1700 runners I 5K; 100 runners/walkers in 1K; 40 dogs in Doggy Trot/costume contest.
  • Following the race there is a huge celebration in the Vinings Jubilee shopping area.
  • Local companies sponsor tables to promote businesses.
  • Race signs in yards, posters in store windows; flyers handed out; emails sent to promote the race. Facebook, Vinings website provided ongoing publicity; full page newspaper write up
  • Vinings Rotary table to promote our club and Rotary
  • Grant proposals submitted and grant committee meets; uses grant rubric, Charity Navigator, and websites to select recipients. All grants proposals must focus on children.
  • Run for the Kids Grant Luncheon Celebration- sponsors recognized and grant recipients get checks
  • Race committee reviews race each year, develops plans for improving for upcoming year; Add elements to make race fun, efficient, quality (i.e. DJ, Peachtree qualifier, dictionaries, Doggy Trot)
  • Dedicated race committee and strong support from club members, makes this project sustainable. Over the years improvements, necessary adjustments, and expansions have strengthened this project.
