Rotarians Against Distracted Driving (RADD)

Carrollton DawnBreakers will host a RADD event for a community outreach and education affair in conjunction with a Soap Box Derby March 28th! This is an all day, action packed event.

This event has been advertised in the local newspaper 12 times, on the local radio 27 times, in the District newsletter, on Facebook and Twitter, and announced in EVERY middle and high school a minimum of 5 times over the past 2 months. Flyers are in every local business allowed. We have maxed out the Soap Box Derby with 21 registrants ages 8-48 that will race down a closed Bradley Street in downtown Carrollton.

Our local police department is providing a drunk driving course that includes drunk goggles and golf carts, the fire department will present car seat and safety belt safety demonstrations. Local driving schools will host parallel parking demonstrations and will give away driving lessons to lucky raffle winners.

We have hired a distracted driving virtual reality simulator “ARRIVE ALIVE” that will give surveys to participants about reaction times BEFORE and AFTER they enter the simulator. They will be issued driver’s license sized card that contains their picture INSIDE the simulator along with their PLEDGE. This card reminds them to drive SAFE – Sober and Free of Electronics!

We have worked on this event since it's birth at District Conference 2014 including 2 Assembly planning sessions.

We have involved the local schools and churches to entice teenagers out to the event, and even hired band for entertainment!
