Swaziland Water Tank and Clothing Donation

The Rotary Club of North Fulton supports Heart for Africa and Project Canaan. Project Canaan provides a home and school for the ever-growing number of orphans being left in the wake of the AIDS pandemic in Swaziland. Project Canaan provides them a chance to live and grow as well as be educated to help break the cycle of ignorance and poverty in their generation. The project currently supports 106 children.

Our club, with the $20,000 Kathy Myers Grant and $5,000 in funds from Heart for Africa, purchased of a 132,000 gallon water storage tank to be used for farming and will bring food to the orphans.

Prior to our trip we held a clothing drive encouraging club members to reach out to their families, church, neighbors and greater community to seek clothing donations specifically for babies, toddlers and young children. We had nine large empty suitcases and filled them so tight that one had to sit on them in order to zip them up. We also brought a plaque to commemorate the completion of the dam project. While there we visited our co-sponsor, the Rotary Club of Mbabani. We then brought back in our empty suitcases, jewelry and other crafted items made on the project to be sold by Heart for Africa in the U.S. to raise funds to support he project.

After our visit we had members of Heart for Africa visit our club. The hand crafted items we brought were available for purchase by our club members.

Children Gathered Around Aslan

We spent a day with the children at school and at break took this photograph with Aslan the lion. I was told this amazing piece was make by a woman who resides in Swaziland.
